In the fall of 2005, our hearts went out to the animal shelters on the Gulf States who were faced with the devastation caused to their operations by Hurricane Katrina. As a result, we launched the "Shelter to Shelter" campaign to help them obtain the supplies we knew they desperately needed.
Thanks to the generosity of our local community, we raised $12,470, every penny of which was spent on critically needed medications and supplies for three of our sister shelters in the Gulf States. Working through our vendors, we were able to obtain discounts or outright donations, which were shipped directly to shelters who are receiving rescued animals, or whose facilities were devastated by floods. These antibiotics, vaccinations, flea treatments and test kits helped ease the pain and stress of hundreds of frightened animals orphaned by the storm.
"Thank you guys!!! I am moved by your willingness to help and your generous spirit. You just cannot know how much it means and how your kindness effects our ability to keep our heads up and keep moving forward!! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!! ...Tara High, Executive Director, Humane Society of Southern Mississippi, Gulfport, MS
