The Champaign County Humane Society offers an incentive for senior citizens to adopt senior pets!
“Seniors for Seniors” allows qualified people, age 60 and older, to adopt a cat or dog that is ten years or older with no adoption fee.
Remember the faithful pet that kept you company as a youngster? When you adopt an older cat or dog from CCHS, you get to experience these joys again while giving a home to a pet that really needs one.
Pets can provide a form of social contact for anyone. Many seniors find their social world shrinking as they age, and studies have shown that the companionship of a dog or cat can provide seniors with comfort, companionship, a sense of purpose, and a reason to stay active and engaged.
For older animals, living with a senior citizen who has ample time for daily interaction is the perfect "retirement." Older dogs and cats really enjoy a quiet lifestyle and lots of lap time.
Companion animals can also improve our physical and mental health. By adopting a new “best friend,” you might experience the benefits of decreased heart rate and blood pressure.
Every dog and cat that is adopted from the Champaign County Humane Society is spayed or neutered and has received basic vaccinations, a microchip, a parasitic check, and a general physical exam before they go home with you.
You are also eligible for a free health examination by a participating veterinarian in our area. The CCHS Staff is available to answer questions about your new pet. If you become unable to take care of your new pet for any reason, you or a family member may return the animal to us at any time.
