We've made our Adoption Application available online for your convenience. It's not necessary to submit your application online before visiting the shelter, but it will save time during your visit if you've submitted the application in advance. Please Note: Submitting an application online does not place a "hold" on an animal, nor is it a guarantee of adoption.
Before submitting an online application, please review our Adoption Procedure & Policies page. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt from CCHS.
Your Adoption Application will not become "active" until you come to the shelter (during open hours) to visit with the animal(s) you're interested in adopting and speak with a member of our Adoption Staff. CCHS will not contact you after you've submitted an online application.
Please have a valid photo ID with you when you visit the shelter.
It is not likely that you will be able to take an animal home on the same day you apply to adopt. The application approval process begins only after you've met the animal.
Our Open Hours for Adoption are:
- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 2-7 PM
- Saturday & Sunday: noon - 5 PM
- CLOSED: Tuesday and major holidays (see the CCHS calendar for closed dates)
Online Applications:
Please fill out the application by clicking the link for the species of pet you would like to adopt. Once the application has been submitted, CCHS will receive it automatically. If you have issues filling out the online adoption application, please call the shelter at 217-344-7297 and ask to speak with an Adoption Staff member. When you come to the shelter to meet the animals, tell the Adoption Staff that you submitted an application online.
